A loan move to either the Championship or abroad is believed to be the most likely scenario at this stage for Tottenham striker Will Lankshear in the January transfer window, football.london understands. Following an incredible 2023/24 campaign for the club's Under-21s, Lankshear forced his way into Ange Postecoglou's plans during pre-season and has so far made four appearances for the first team this term.
Not featuring for Spurs since his late cameo in the 5-0 win away at Southampton, a loan move away from the club looks set to come to fruition for the second half of the campaign due to the current options ahead of him in the pecking order. Lankshear will become the latest in a host of Under-21s players to have departed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season in order to get some much-needed first-team experience in the tank.
Following the success of Josh Keeley, Jamie Donley and George Abbott's loan spells, Alfie Dorrington will now be looking to make his mark in the Scottish Premiership after joining Aberdeen on loan on Monday evening. When it comes to Lankshear, Spurs will ultimately decide on whatever move gives the starlet the best chance of regular football as well as being tested at a good level to further his development.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the North London Derby, Postecoglou was asked about transfer outgoings and hinted that Lankshear could possibly be in line to exit on loan.
He said: "Yeah, we can’t afford to let anyone go at the moment. Some of the young players, Alfie Dorrington went out on loan and we will probably do similar for young Will [Lankshear] because he hasn’t really played a lot. Aside from that, we are looking at incomings if anything happens."
On the latest episode of their Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Spurs reporters Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discussed a potential loan exit for Lankshear ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday, February 3. As well as that, the pair also talked about what Postecoglou had to say on transfers in his pre-match press conference, Wednesday's North London Derby against Arsenal and Tamworth giving Spurs quite a shock in the FA Cup.
