Cristian Romero has not featured for Tottenham since mid-November

Tottenham Hotspur have endured an underwhelming campaign thus far, with Ange Postecoglou grappling with injuries and frustrating displays.

The Lilywhites’ chronic inconsistency have raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike, leading to debates about what changes the club needs to make in January to achieve some sort of stability. Much of the inconsistency stems from a mixture of key players being in the treatment room and others struggling to hit top form.

-> Tottenham Injury News: First XI star unfit to finish 90 minutes against Bournemouth

Cristian Romero is among several key Tottenham players currently sidelined with a knee injury. The Argentinean international has not featured for Spurs since the shock 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town before the November international break.

He teamed up with the national team over the last international break of the year, but after managing only 45 minutes in Argentina’s 2-1 defeat to Paraguay, the Argentina medical team decided to release him early from the camp. Ange Postecoglou had hoped Cristian Romero could return to training this week, with injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar claiming the defender will be unlikely to feature for 90 minutes against Bournemouth on Thursday evening in the Premier League.

Now, the Spurs boss has dropped the latest injury update on the centre-back. Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning from Hotspur Way, Postecoglou confirmed Romero will not be available to face Bournemouth.

-> Tottenham speeding up efforts to tie down first XI star to a new contract

Romero has been undoubtedly working hard behind the scenes to recover fully and make himself available to Big Ange, who has been without his preferred centre-back pair over the last few fixtures. That coupled with Guglielmo Vicario’s long-term injury means Big Ange’s squad is severely stretched at the moment.

Spurs’ defensive lynchpin, Romero may have not been in the best of forms this season but having him in the team certainly makes a massive difference. The Cordoba-born star plays with the heart of his sleeves, complementing the calm and composed Van de Ven in central defence. So, both missing out again is a huge blow for Big Ange and Tottenham.
