Ange Postecoglou has spoken about Tottenham Hotspur’s failed pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani.
The Lilywhites have suffered from a chronic injury crisis this season, leaving their squad stretched almost to breaking point.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see the club linked with a host of players in the January transfer window.
PSG star Kolo Muani was one such player, with Spurs thought to be in talks with the French club as recently as three days ago.
A 27-time France international — scoring eight goals — Kolo Muani could have added serious firepower to the Spurs forward line, despite his relative struggles since joining PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023.
Ange Postecoglou comments on Randal Kolo Muani
It now appears Kolo Muani is set to join Italian giants Juventus.
Naturally, Postecoglou has been asked about missing out on the French striker and whether he was even pursuing him in the first place.
“We were in… Well, it depends what you mean for in,” he responded when asked to confirm whether Spurs were ‘in for’ Kolo Muani (via Football.London). “We’ve been interested and were looking at a number of players. But did we get to the point where we thought he was coming to us? No.”
Asked if missing out on the forward was a ‘big setback’, he responded: “For me? No.”
Postecoglou was then asked how ‘confident’ he was that Spurs will be able to get some new signings in this month.
“As confident as you can be,” he said. “It is tricky as all clubs are finding. And I guess traditionally it ramps up in that final week so we’re approaching there for all clubs. It’s even trickier in January because once you try to acquire a player, the club wants to replace that player. So there’s all sorts of logistics involved.”
