Ange Postecoglou has made a rather surprising claim about one Tottenham star after the club’s thumping 4-1 win over West Ham.

Brennan Johnson’s crazy hot streak

Johnson has been in the form of his life over the last month, having scored in six consecutive matches for Spurs on the back of a lacklustre start to the campaign.

He made it seven in seven matches when he found the back of the net for Wales against Iceland during the international break.

While his scoring streak finally came to an end on Saturday against West Ham, he did come close on a couple of occasions.

Ange Postecoglou makes a big claim about Johnson

Postecoglou has now suggested that even though Johnson failed to get on the scoresheet, his performance in the London derby was his best one in a Tottenham shirt.

The Australian praised the defensive work that the 23-year-old put in to help out Pedro Porro.

Postecoglou told Football.London: “I mentioned it to the lads, I know Brennan Johnson didn’t score today but I thought that was his best performance for us with the amount of work he did to help out Pedro and help out the team in a defensive capacity and still be a threat going the other way.”

Johnson’s value off the ball

While fans and journalists often tend to judge attackers only on what they do in possession, their work off the ball is just as important in modern-day football.

Postecoglou’s system certainly relies on the forwards pressing incessantly off the ball and on the wingers tracking back to help the full-backs, who are often in very advanced positions.

That is where Johnson excels, with the former Nottingham Forest being a tireless worker and capable of sprinting all game.
