Ange Postecoglou reported that Richarlison suffered a calf injury during our Carabao Cup semi-final, second leg defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night.

The striker went down holding the back of his right leg after chasing a ball over the top towards the end of the first half. Richy was forced off after treatment, replaced by debutant Mathys Tel. We were trailing 1-0 by then - Cody Gakpo on target after 34 minutes, levelling the tie on aggregate - but Mo Salah’s penalty on 51 minutes put the Reds in front overall and they added goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (75) and Virgil van Dikj (80) for the final 4-1 aggregate scoreline.

Speaking to us at Anfield, Ange said: “It looks like Richy’s calf, so it looks like another player to add to the list. It is what it is. We’ll dust ourselves off, it’s a big game on Sunday at Villa and we want to stay in that competition, so I’m sure the boys will be motivated after tonight to go out there and put in a strong performance.”

We play Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday (5.35pm UK).
