Archie Gray is keen to maintain his fearless approach in a Tottenham shirt after delivering an impressive performance on his European debut during Thursday's resounding 3-0 triumph over Qarabag.
The promising 18-year-old, who joined Spurs from Leeds in July for a hefty sum of £35million, showcased his versatility by bringing dynamism to the right-back position on his second start for the club.
Although traditionally a midfielder, Gray demonstrated flexibility in Spurs' set-up by drifting into central areas, something that manager Ange Postecoglou encourages with his tactics involving inverted full-backs.
This tactic did leave gaps at the back occasionally, but nevertheless, Gray contributed significantly to Tottenham's dominant Europa League win, even with the team down to 10 men for most of the match following Radu Dragusin's red card.
Postecoglou has repeatedly bigged up the trust he has in Gray and his fellow youngsters in north London, giving the England Under-21 star a significant boost in confidence.
Expressing gratitude for his manager's support, Gray said: "I'm really grateful to have the manager we've got. I'm a big fan of him. I'm grateful to have him here and to learn so much off him, it's a big opportunity for me.
"To hear stuff like that from him, it makes you trust yourself even more and have more confidence to go out there and be fearless. That's what he wants from us and hopefully we can go out and do that every game we're trusted to be in."
Gray has proudly followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Frank Gray, who won the European Cup with Nottingham Forest in 1980, and his great uncle Eddie Gray by featuring in European competition.
Despite a moment of tension when Dragusin was sent off early in the game for pulling Juninho back as Spurs' last defender, Postecoglou's decision to keep three forwards on the pitch paid off when Brennan Johnson netted five minutes later, marking his third goal in as many matches.
The second half saw Pape Sarr and Dominic Solanke add to the scoreline, while Qarabag's Toral Bayramov blasted a penalty over the bar in the 58th minute.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Gray shared his pride: "Yeah obviously a proud moment for me and my family. To be playing here, I am really grateful to be in this team and I am proud (to make my European debut).

"It was a tough game, especially after the first few minutes. Everyone makes mistakes and obviously Radu didn't want to do that. We'll all here for him.
"You try to stay calm. Things happen in football and you've just got to be able to get on with it and move on. That's part of football and the challenge.
"Everyone just took it in their stride I thought and we helped each other on the pitch, which was the main thing.
"We had to change a few things obviously but overall I thought we dealt with it well. We can still move the ball quicker and loads of things we can work on but definitely good to get a result."
