Tottenham Hotspur are keen on bringing their former academy graduate back to the club this summer, but it has now been revealed that Aston Villa have moved into pole position to sign the player.

Some Spurs fans may not be aware that Chelsea star, Noni Madueke, came through the ranks of the academy set-up at Hotspur Way.

The winger left the North London club in 2018 for PSV Eindhoven without making a senior appearance for the Lilywhites, with Chelsea securing his services in 2023 after he rose to prominence in the Eredivisie.

However, of late, the winger has dropped down Enzo Maresca’s pecking order and it was reported a few days ago that Tottenham are plotting a move to re-sign Madueke from their London rivals this summer.

Aston Villa are now leading the race to sign Noni Madueke

A report in GiveMeSport has now claimed that Aston Villa has entered the race to sign Madueke and have quickly moved to the front of the queue to land the attacker.

The Villans have been handed a ‘significant boost’ in their pursuit of Madueke after Chelsea gave indications that they are willing to listen to offers for the winger.

Unai Emery’s men are big fans of the Englishman and there is now ‘increasing confidence’ at Villa Park that the 23-year-old will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge if they make a decent offer for him in the summer.

Tottenham are not Villa’s biggest competitor for Madueke

Interestingly, the update from GiveMeSport does not mention Tottenham Hotspur at all while discussing Madueke’s next destination.

The outlet names Newcastle United as Villa’s biggest competitors in the race for the winger with the Magpies thought to have identified him as one of their top summer targets.

The publication adds that Madueke has been left frustrated with his lack of game time in West London and would be open to a move in the summer if his situation does not improve over the next two months.
