Tottenham Hotspur have now set their sights on a young English centre-back who is making waves in Belgian football, but they face plenty of competition from fellow Premier League sides for the player.
English youngsters earning their Spurs abroad
Over recent years, we have seen a number of English players make a move abroad at a young age to get regular game time, before making a move to the Premier League once they have established themselves at the top level.
We have seen the likes of Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke successfully do that and it now looks like young defender Archie Brown might follow in their footsteps.
The former Derby County youngster has been winning many admirers with his performances for Gent and the centre-back is now in line for a big move to the Premier League.
Tottenham are fans of Archie Brown
This update comes from TBR Football, who say that Spurs are among Brown’s admirers, having followed his progress closely in Belgium.
The left-sided centre-back’s impressive displays for England’s Under-20 side have now reportedly brought him to the attention of a number of Premier League sides.
The report adds that Chelsea and Man Utd checked on the defender last season, with the Blues retaining their interest.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Meanwhile, West Ham, Fulham, Brentford and Leeds have also allegedly sent scouts to Belgium to watch the youngster in action.
Tottenham reportedly keen on a left-sided centre-back
It has been reported over recent weeks that Spurs are now keen on signing a left-sided centre-back in January due to their concerns about Micky van de Ven‘s injury record.
In fact, journalist Graeme Bailey even told The Spurs News last week that Ange Postecoglou now considers the position his top priority.
Archie Brown is the sort of profile Tottenham will likely target, given his age, raw pace and his technical attributes.
