Tottenham Hotspur's defensive troubles escalated further as Ben Davies faced an unexpected setback during training, leaving boss Ange Postecoglou with a daunting task ahead of Sunday’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The North London side had already found themselves in a precarious position, missing Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and now Davies, who were all sidelined during Thursday's narrow 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Compounding the situation, Radu Dragusin had to be substituted due to an ankle issue, which only exacerbated Spurs' defensive woes.

In the absence of their regular defenders, Tottenham had to rely on midfielders Archie Gray and Yves Bissouma, who surprisingly adapted to form a makeshift central defence, a strategy that could be needed once more against Wolves following Davies' unfortunate injury.

Postecoglou confirmed the grim news about Davies, stating, "No, he is ruled out. Unfortunately, he had a setback in training, so he'll probably be out for a couple of weeks." Regarding Dragusin’s condition, the manager remarked, "It’s a bit early to tell. He obviously tweaked his ankle last night and felt he couldn’t continue. We’ll have to wait and see."

Adding to the challenges, full-back Djed Spence was shown a second yellow card during his return to the City Ground on Boxing Day, further straining Postecoglou's defensive options.

"We’re in a tough spot and have been for a while. We've managed to get through it, crossing our fingers for no more issues. However, with the relentless nature of football and the congested fixture list, we’re constantly on the edge," said Postecoglou, revealing the anxiety felt within the camp. "It’s another test for us, but it is what it is. Whatever comes our way, we’ll tackle it and prepare for Sunday’s match with resolve."
