Tottenham’s defensive struggles this season have been exacerbated by the ongoing absence of Ben Davies, who has been sidelined with a thigh injury since early December.
Dr. Rajpal Brar, a sports scientist and injury expert, has provided insight into Davies’ condition, suggesting that the defender is expected to miss the upcoming game against Wolves.
However, his return to training within a couple of weeks remains a realistic target if his recovery stays on track.
The injury, sustained during an away match against Bournemouth, has already kept Davies out of seven games.
Although there is no indication of a severe Grade 3 rupture, which could require extensive recovery time, even minor injuries must be managed carefully to prevent recurrence or further complications.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Dr Brar stated:
“We haven’t had any updates other than Ange saying he will go in for a scan and he might be back sooner so I don’t put much into King’s comments.
“Best case would be a Grade 0 thigh injury, mere discomfort which is day to day and worst case is a Grade 3 rupture which is 10+ weeks depending on whether surgery is needed or not, but that does not seem to be the case.
“I’d still rule him out for the next one but he could be back in training in a week or two.“
Davies has been a crucial figure in Ange Postecoglou’s setup this season, particularly with first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven also sidelined.
The Welsh defender has stepped up admirably, making 11 appearances across all competitions, including nine starts, and providing consistent and reliable performances.
Since joining Tottenham from Swansea City in 2014, Davies has established himself as a dependable and versatile player.
He has been a key contributor over the years, being part of the club’s squad that had a memorable run to the 2019 Champions League final.
His experience makes him an invaluable asset to the team, particularly in challenging periods like the one Spurs are currently enduring.
As Tottenham contend with poor results and an injury-hit season, reintegrating Davies into the lineup must be handled with caution.
Rushing his return could risk further setbacks, undermining the long-term stability of the backline. However, his eventual comeback promises to bring much-needed reinforcement and leadership to a struggling defence.
Davies’ recovery is critical for the Lilywhites as they look to stabilize their form and regain momentum under Postecoglou’s guidance.
