Cafu, Brazil’s most-capped player and twice World Cup winner, will be part of the AC Milan Glorie squad facing our Legends in a fascinating clash to raise funds for our Foundation at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 23 March (2pm).
Capped an incredible 142 times by Brazil between 1990-2006, the full-back played in three-successive World Cup Finals, lifting the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1994 and 2002, where he captained the team to success in Japan/Korea, and runner-up in 1998. He made 166 appearances for Milan between 2003-2008, helping I Rossoneri lift the UEFA Champions League in 2007.
Andrew Pirlo, the midfield maestro of Italian football, heads up Milan’s squad, as we announced on Friday.
The San Siro side will be up against a Spurs Legends squad now with 18 names confirmed - Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Sebastien Bassong, Dimitar Berbatov, Stephen Carr, Pascal Chimbonda, Michael Dawson, Jermain Defoe, Mark Falco, David Ginola, Heurelho Gomes, Younes Kaboul, Ledley King, Aaron Lennon, Allan Nielsen, Sandro, Teddy Sheringham, Teemu Tainio and Michel Vorm.
Cafu is one of four Brazil internationals set for N17 alongside fellow World Cup winners, goalkeeper Dida and Serginho and fellow defender, Roque Junior – 293 caps for Seleção between them.
Pirlo is joined by fellow Azzurri legends Massimo Ambrosini, who made a mammoth 489 appearances for Milan between 1995-2013, Cristian Zaccardo, Diego Fuser and Marco Borriello. Cristian Brocchi, who played for and later managed Milan in 2016, is also in the squad.
