Real Betis maintain informal contacts with Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso regarding a return to the club.
Lo Celso’s move to Tottenham hasn’t gone according to plan. The Argentine international joined the Premier League outfit back in the summer of 2019 following an impressive season at Real Betis. But, he has failed to establish himself in their first team.
While Ange Postecoglou decided to keep him in his squad for the 2023/24 season, the Australian manager could only hand him 597 minutes of first-team action spread across 24 appearances. Lo Celso is expected to be on the move this summer in search of regular first-team action and according to a report from Estadio Deportivo, Real Betis are keen on re-signing him and they have maintained ‘informal contacts’ with the player.
The La Liga outfit have been maintaining the stance that signing Lo Celso will be very complicated for them but their sporting management has been in constant contact with the player who is aware of the fact that they would love to have him back in their squad.
Betis have an advantage in their pursuit as the 28-year-old’s contract at Spurs runs out next summer. The North London club are not in a position to demand a huge fee for Lo Celso and Betis are expected to play the waiting game as it will help them try and sign him on the cheap.
More importantly, it will allow them to make the move financially feasible by offloading Nabil Fekir who is one of their highest-paid players. His departure will raise significant funds and it will also make room on their wage bill to accommodate Lo Celso.
