Dejan Kulusevski has done something he's never managed for Tottenham and Dane Scarlett reaction

It is now three Premier League wins on the spin for Tottenham after they recorded a 4-1 victory away at Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon. Ange Postecoglou's side are 12th in the league table after 26 games but are now only six points off the top half following Fulham's home defeat against Crystal Palace.

Brennan Johnson put Spurs on their way to victory in the 18th minute after converting Son Heung-min's cross, with the duo once again combining eight minutes later as the winger helped himself to his second goal of the game. Omari Hutchinson gave Ipswich hope nine minutes before the break with a well-taken strike that gave Guglielmo Vicario no chance.

Spurs restored their two-goal cushion in the closing stages as Djed Spence netted his first Premier League goal following some good work from substitute James Maddison. The game was then put to bed in the 84th minute as Dejan Kulusevski curled home an unstoppable effort to wrap up the win.

Here are five things we spotted at Portman Road:

Son and Johnson excel

Cross the ball to the back post and there's a very good chance Johnson will be there waiting to tap home. That was the case in Suffolk on Saturday as Johnson made it 14 goals for the season with his first Tottenham double.

The 23-year-old is a master of arriving at the back stick at the perfect time to convert and it is something that has proved extremely valuable for Postecoglou. "Yeah, Brennan's really good for us. We don't really have another front third player like him," said the Australian in his post-match press conference.

"He just knows when to arrive at the right time. He's really clinical. It's just great to get him back and get him 60 minutes of football. He's missed a lot of football. I'm sure he'll feel good after today."

As nice as it was to see Johnson mark his first start since returning from injury with two goals, it was also pleasing to see Son have a big say on the contest amid his mixed form this campaign. The Spurs captain was at his very best as he caused Ben Godfrey issues in the first half with his trickery, most notably his fine play that resulted in Johnson opening the scoring.

Son wasn't to get his name on the scoresheet but the hope will be that he can do so on Wednesday evening when Manchester City visit the capital.

Kulusevski Spurs first

Kulusevski has been a pivotal player for Tottenham this term and he will be at the front of the queue to win the club's player of the season award come May. The Swede is so influential in the final third and a look at his numbers for this season highlight the huge say he has had on the team.

Since joining Tottenham from Juventus three years ago, this is the first season where the 24-year-old has registered double figures for both goals and assists (five goals and eight assists in 21/22, two goals and eight assists in 22/23, eight goals and three assists in 23/24). Already on ten assists heading into the game at Portman Road, the Sweden international's late strike was indeed his tenth goal of the campaign.

There's a very good chance his numbers for both will increase between now and May as there is still so much football left to be played this season. Kulusevski was to play the full 90 minutes of Saturday's 4-1 win and that maybe was surprising going on Postecoglou's pre-match comments.

The head coach mentioned that players such as Kulusevski and Porro could get "a little bit of a rest" due to the large amount of football they have played this season but that was not the case for the former on Saturday. It's hard to see Tottenham's No.21 getting a rest on Wednesday evening when Manchester City come to town.

Scarlett celebration

Kulusevski's goal against Ipswich all came from a Dane Scarlett flick-on that allowed the Swede to race away and net. The second-half substitute beat Jacob Greaves in the air and it did appear that the ex-Hull City man was rather unhappy that play was allowed to continue after a clash of heads when competing for the ball.

Scarlett's assist was in fact his first goal involvement at Portman Road despite spending the first half of last season on loan with the Tractor Boys. His loan deal never quite worked out and he was limited to 12 cameo appearances from the bench before he was eventually recalled by Tottenham.

Recalled once again for the second half of the campaign following limited minutes with Oxford, the academy graduate has made his mark for Tottenham with a goal and two assists in his three appearances since returning. The 20-year-old did look quite pleased with his latest contribution as he wheeled away in celebration on his own at a time when Kulusevski and the rest of the team headed to the opposite corner to celebrate with the away fans.

He was undoubtedly just pleased to have an impact on a ground where things didn't go to plan for him last season.

Danso thrives

At the other end of the pitch, Kevin Danso is thriving since making the move from Lens in the final few days of the January transfer window. The Austrian has come straight into the team and has immediately looked right at home in Postecoglou's side.

Danso switched over to the left centre-back position at Ipswich as Archie Gray started on the right. The new centre-back may predominantly play on the right but he may have to get used to more football on the left once Cristian Romero has returned to full fitness from his injury.

Danso was a big player for Tottenham against Ipswich and contributed with nine defensive actions, six clearances, four headed clearances, three recoveries, one interception, one successful tackle and six successful duels from a possible nine. He is already proving to be a very shrewd signing.

Managing minutes

Tottenham's matchday squad certainly looks healthier now that a handful of players have returned to fitness. Not wanting to push some players too much and give a rest to others, Postecoglou was able to do that at Portman Road prior to Wednesday's showdown against Manchester City.

Destiny Udogie was handed his first minutes of 2025 and played just over an hour before Porro came on to take his place, with Johnson also making way at the same time after making his comeback off the bench last Sunday against Manchester United. Porro was given a rare breather after featuring heavily this season and the boss was also able to manage Maddison and Wilson Odobert's minutes after their respective injury layoffs.

Postecoglou also revealed in his post-match press conference that Ben Davies' absence from the squad was also down to managing his minutes. The Spurs squad looks so much better off for having their injured players return and hopefully it stays that way between now and May.
