Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on last night’s news regarding Tottenham’s player-plus-cash bid for Jacob Ramsey.

It was reported last night that Villa have rejected an offer from Spurs for the midfielder, a deal which included Giovani Lo Celso.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the report and stated that Spurs’ interest in Ramsey was concrete and the club did indeed make an offer.

The North London outfit had reportedly offered a player-plus-cash swap deal several weeks ago, proposing £20 million along with Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in exchange for the talented midfielder.

Romano confirmed that Aston Villa promptly rejected Tottenham’s proposal, underscoring their determination to retain the 23-year-old midfielder.

Ramsey, a product of Aston Villa’s esteemed youth academy, has flourished under Unai Emery, becoming a pivotal figure known for his stellar performances.

For Tottenham, the pursuit of Ramsey is seen as a strategic manoeuvre to inject youthful energy and creative prowess into their midfield ranks.

However, Romano clarified that the bid involving Lo Celso and cash was not recent but occurred weeks ago, highlighting the ongoing nature of Spurs’ efforts to strengthen their squad.

The journalist also suggested that Lo Celso is likely to depart Tottenham during the upcoming summer transfer window, with potential interest from clubs such as Real Betis being explored.

Speaking on Playback, Romano said:

“What I can tell is, this story of Tottenham making a bid to Aston Villa for Ramsey including a player, Gio Lo Celso, and money, is a bid they made, yes.

“But, it was weeks ago, not this week and not even last week. It was weeks ago. Aston Villa immediately said no.

“Gio Lo Celso has very good chances to leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window. I think Gio Lo Celso will leave Tottenham, this is my feeling.

“Still exploring the options, Betis are there, Unai Emery knows him well, there are several opportunities, but he will leave the club.”

As negotiations unfold amid the ongoing transfer window, Tottenham face the challenge of navigating Aston Villa’s firm stance regarding Ramsey’s availability.

Whether they return with an improver bid for the Villa man or turn their attention elsewhere remains to be seen.
