A domino effect in the transfer market is likely to begin in the final days of the summer window, and one move, in particular, appears to be opening the path for one Spurs midfielder to head to Spain.

Lo Celso set for Betis return

It seems Giovani Lo Celso‘s time at Tottenham is coming to an end. The playmaker has been at the club since 2019, but has never managed to establish himself among the first-team despite a brief resurgence under Ange Postecoglou last season.

Now, it is thought the departure of Nabil Fekir at Real Betis is going to open the door for Lo Celso to head back to Spain once more.

A report from Relevo discusses the matter, claiming Fekir has already travelled to Saudi Arabia to finalise his move to Al-Jazira. That transfer is thought to be “key for Betis in the final moves” as they look to secure the signing of Lo Celso.

Despite interest in Dani Ceballos, Lo Celso is considered the favourite for the Spanish outfit to replace Fekir. According to Relevo reporter Matteo Moretto, Betis will now “accelerate” their interest in the Spurs man.

They’re not the only ones to comment on the situation, either. Fabrizio Romano shared an update on his X account on Wednesday, too.

He tweeted: “Real Betis are pushing to sign Gio Lo Celso as top target for midfield since June. Lo Celso’s expected to leave Spurs in the final days and negotiations can now start as Nabil Fekir is on his way out. Qatari side Al Jazira advancing in talks for Fekir.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I haven’t been particularly desperate for Spurs to move Lo Celso on this summer, but now that the decision has been made to sell him, we have to get the deal done swiftly and clear the books further. He’s a really talented player, but he just feels better suited for La Liga.
