Tim Sherwood believes Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven would have jumped at the opportunity to play for Manchester United.

Tottenham have completely turned things around with some exceptional performances in recent weeks. The North London club have won each of their last four outings across competitions. Not many expected them to come out on top against Manchester United but Ange Postecoglou’s men managed to dominate the proceedings and ended up winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Micky van de Ven was outstanding on the night and he has received a lot of plaudits for his work. Former Tottenham star Tim Sherwood talked quite highly about the Dutch centre-back and he even suggested that Manchester United fans would be wondering why Erik ten Hag didn’t push for his services having signed so many Dutch players since taking charge.

While speaking on Premier League productions, the Blackburn legend said via TBR: “Tottenham have a clear identity out of possession and in possession.

“Micky van de Ven picks the ball up, it’s a wide open space and look at the pace and power of this kid. Then the ability to find Brennan Johnson with a cross at the far post.

“Manchester United fans must be looking at it and say ‘ook, our manager has signed a lot of Dutch players. There is probably one who is very, very good and playing for Tottenham. He might have jumped at the chance to go and play for Man United, but never got the opportunity because he took de Ligt over the top of him. This boy is a thoroughbred. I know Michael (Owen) trains racehorses, he would like to have this one in the stable. Look at the pace, power and the ability of that boy.”

He highlighted the fact that Spurs know what they are doing in and out of possession. More importantly, they have signed players who can help Postecoglou better implement his style of football. While Manchester United have also spent a fortune on player transfers, the same cannot be said about the Red Devils.

Manchester United fans would be looking at Van de Ven and wondering why their manager didn’t go after such an exciting talent when he has signed so many Dutch players in recent windows.
