Tottenham Hotspur might go another season without a trophy
Tottenham Hotspur are having a disastrous campaign under Ange Postecoglou. The North London club sit in 13th place in the Premier League and are already out of all the domestic competitions. It has been a season to forget for the Spurs fans, with their team not performing to the standards expected.
Spurs have been underwhelming ever since Daniel Levy was made Chairman of the club in 2001. The Lilywhites have won just one major trophy under his 24-year tenure and have been nothing but mediocre for a long period of time.
Tottenham Hotspur’s last major trophy came in 2008, when they beat city rivals Chelsea to win the League Cup in a packed Wembley Stadium. However, after that, the English club has come close to winning the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup but has somehow always failed to achieve their goal of lifting a major trophy.
Spurs fans have held several protests, too, for Levy’s poor management of the club and have called for his sacking as the club does not seem to be moving forward. Ange’s men will most likely miss out on Champions League qualification this season, and it will just symbolize how poorly run the club is from top to bottom.
Tim Sherwood has his say on the current situation
Former Tottenham Hotspur player Tim Sherwood is known for his bold claims. The Premier League winner played under the regime of Daniel Levy when he was a player and later joined the club as a manager in 2013/14.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Sherwood said,
“Everyone looks at the common denominator and they think ‘Well, the managers have come and gone and they’re still lifting no trophies, but the one remaining factor is Daniel Levy’, but I was there with the old regime as a player and I loved Alan Sugar because he was his own person, and I liked Daniel Levy, too. It’s just that Daniel does it in a different way.”
The ex-Spurs manager went on to say,
“It’s not his fault that the club hasn’t won anything, I believe. I think they’ve had the opportunities to, and I think he’s spent money. The Recruitment hasn’t been top drawer, that has been an area where if you have to point the finger, you’d have to point the finger at that.”
Daniel Levy has come under a lot of scrutiny during his time at Tottenham Hotspur, and it’s safe to say that the fans want him to leave the club. The performances have not improved under a number of managers, and the failure to win trophies and controversially sacking managers without giving them a chance has been the story of Levy’s tenure.
