Tottenham legend Garry Brooke, who won two FA Cups with the club, has died at the age of 64 following a long illness, the club have announced.
Brooke passed away on Saturday morning as Tottenham reflected on an "impossibly difficult time" for the ex-midfielder's family.
A statement from Tottenham read: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former player Garry Brooke this morning, following a lengthy battle with illness. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this impossibly difficult time."
Brooke went on to play 101 times for his boyhood club Spurs, scoring 18 times, before becoming something of a journeyman in his career as he turned out for Norwich, Dutch side Groningen, Wimbledon, Stoke City, Brentford, Colchester United, Reading and St Albans City.
Norwich also paid tribute to their former player with a statement reading: "All at Norwich City are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Garry Brooke after a battle with illness. We pass on our sincere condolences to Garry's loved ones at this sad time."
Brookes' FA Cup-winning team-mate at Tottenham Ossie Ardiles took to social media to make his own gesture. He said: "Very very sad news. Gary was a wonderful player and even more a wonderful friend.
"My thoughts and prayers with your family and friends. Very honoured to have played football with you and been your friend. Rest in peace dear Brooksy."
Brooke was born in Bethnal Green in 1960 and joined Tottenham in 1978, first having a loan spell with Swedish side GAIS before making his debut in the 1980-81 season.
That first campaign was a successful one as it resulted in him lifting the FA Cup with Spurs after a 3-2 win over Manchester City in the final, which saw him come off the bench.
The following year in 1981-82 Brooke would win another FA Cup with Spurs, coming off the bench once again in extra time.
