Tottenham Hotspur’s young talent, Jamie Donley, has been earning plaudits for his recent performances, with journalist Alasdair Gold particularly impressed by the 19-year-old’s display during his loan spell at League One side Leyton Orient.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold highlighted Donley’s performance in Leyton Orient’s third-round Carabao Cup clash against Premier League side Brentford. Despite Orient’s lower league status, Donley stood out, showcasing his creativity, vision, and quick, forward-thinking passing, which created multiple opportunities for his teammates.

Reflecting on Tottenham’s current attacking challenges, Gold suggested that Donley’s inclusion in the first team could have made a “huge difference” to Spurs’ offensive play.

However, he acknowledged that the loan move to Leyton Orient was likely the best decision for the youngster’s development, offering him valuable playing time and experience.

Gold said:

“I was watching Jamie Donley playing for Orient against Brentford the night before. So much of the stuff he was doing, now in hindsight, I was like ‘ugh,’ he’s gonna be at Orient and playing, but my goodness.

“He was playing so many fast, progressive passes, creative balls between the lines, setting people away. And you just kind of thought, had he started in that lineup, I think Spurs would have fewer problems. And I know that’s putting a lot on what is he, 19 years old.

“But I actually think he was that good against Premier League opposition in Brentford. He would have made a huge difference. But, it’s better what he’s doing — I think the loan move is the right choice.”

Donley has been a rising star in Tottenham’s academy since joining in 2013. He first made his mark with the Under-18s in 2020, and more recently, became a key player for the Under-21 squad.

Last season, he contributed an impressive eight goals and 17 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

Now at Leyton Orient, Donley continues to develop, and his progress is being closely monitored by Spurs fans. As he gains more experience, there’s growing anticipation that he could soon play a pivotal role in Tottenham’s senior team.
