There has been a huge development involving Qatar Sports Investments amidst their rumoured Tottenham takeover talks, and it might not be good news for Spurs fans who want to see the back of ENIC and Daniel Levy.

Over the last 12 months, we have heard plenty of rumours regarding a possible takeover of Tottenham Hotspur, but nothing concrete has materialised so far, much to the frustration of a lot of supporters.

It has been reported over recent months that Newcastle’s former co-owners Amanda Staveley had held talks with Daniel Levy over a minority takeover, while some sources have said that several American investors had shown interest in buying a stake in Spurs.

It was also reported widely last year that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), who own Paris Saint-Germain, were showing interest in Tottenham.

Huge QSI development could scupper Tottenham takeover hopes

Over the last 12 months, we have continuously read that QSI’s chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaifi has met with Daniel Levy to discuss investing in the Lilywhites.

As well as owning PSG, QSI own a significant minority stake in Portuguese side Braga, and in a huge development, it has emerged that the consortium is now on the verge of adding another club to their portfolio.

According to Sky News City Editor Mark Kleinman, QSI are in advanced talks to buy Spanish second-tier side Malaga.

This comes as a worrying development for Spurs as it potentially indicates that Al-Khelaifi has turned his attention to other options after being unable to strike a deal with Levy.

Is a QSI takeover of Spurs still on the cards?

Clubs under the same ownership umbrella are not allowed to compete in the same European competition under the current regulations.

However, UEFA have given temporary reprieves to some clubs operating multi-club networks in the past, and European football’s government body could change the rules regarding conflict of interest to allow such networks to operate.

If that is the case, QSI’s growing portfolio of clubs will not be a hindrance to a possible Tottenham takeover.
