James Maddison, who joined Tottenham from Leicester City last summer for £40 million, made an immediate impact, establishing himself as a key creative force under Ange Postecoglou. He contributed three goals and five assists in his first 11 games.

However, a setback in November saw him sidelined with an injury sustained against Chelsea, limiting his appearances until late January. Since returning, Maddison struggled to regain his earlier form, which even cost him a place in the England squad.

He swiftly established himself as a key creative force in Ange’s side, contributing with three goals and five assists in his first 11 games.

However, a setback in November, when he sustained an injury against Chelsea, sidelined him until late January. Since his return, Maddison has struggled to replicate his earlier form for ther rest of the season which even resulted in him losing out the place in the England squad.

This season, he has appeared to be back to his best with a decent start to the season. In 5 Premier League games so far he has made 3 goal contributions, assisting two and scoring one.

His performance against Brentford was his best of the season, which was capped off with a lovely chipped finish over the keeper.

And former Premier League striker Troy Deeney was among those who were impressed by his performance.

Writing for BBC Sport, he opined:

“This is the game I’ve been waiting to see Madds do for a long, long time. Even though Brentford scored early he got in there and said: ‘Right, watch what I do’. He created loads of chances.

“I’ve been critical of him at times, I felt he has gone too short and not put himself in difficult positions. This was the perfect response.”

Tottenham fans will hope that Maddison continues his hot form and help Spurs go on a winning streak to climb further up the table after a slow start to the season.
