Fabrizio Romano believes Tottenham could sign a new midfielder this summer.
Tottenham have added two young stars to their midfield, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. While they are expected to play their part in the first team, neither of them is going to be a mainstay in the Spurs midfield right from the start. As a result, Tottenham could go in for another midfielder before the start of the new season.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes the North London club could push for a new midfielder after Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s departure. The Danish defensive midfielder had fallen down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.
Frustrated by the lack of minutes the 28-year-old wanted a change and he has secured a season-long loan move to Marseille who have an option to buy.
While talking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano said: “It is a possibility for Tottenham to bring in a new midfielder after Hojbjerg’s exit, I still think that they want to do something in the offensive position.”
Romano has talked about it being a possibility that Spurs could move in for a new midfielder but it does seem to be a necessity with the Danish international gone and the future of Giovani Lo Celso and Oliver Skipp up in the air.
The North London club need a reliable figure in the midfield who adds quality as well as depth. While Spurs certainly want to add more firepower to their attack, bringing in a midfielder seems to be more important given the fact that neither of their midfield players have started in more than 26 league games last season. They do not seem to have a stable base in the centre of the park.
Tottenham have been linked with Scott McTominay as well as Eberechi Eze. While they do not seem to be pushing for the Manchester United midfielder, they will face significant competition in the race for the services of Eze. As a result, it will be interesting to see which player they go after.
