Former Tottenham Hotspur striker, and U18 academy coach, Jermain Defoe, has singled out three players he worked with as a future player to look out for, including two currently in the Spurs academy.Â
Jermain Defoe with some very kind words about two players
Speaking to Sky Sports news, the 42-year old said: âThe first one is a player I coached at Tottenham for two years in the academy. Iâd probably go as far as saying heâs one of the best players at his age that Iâve seen in the country.Â
I remember we played a game last year against Chelsea, and his performance was unbelievable. Outstanding performance. It was probably his best performance of the season, the big game.
I think we ended up winning 3-2, we were 2-0 down. It was a masterclass â and the playerâs name is Tyrese Hall. Heâs someone who I believe is a Premier League [standard] footballer.Â
It know itâs a big statement but heâs someone who from the first time I saw him I thought âdo you know what, I believe, god willing, that heâs someone who can go and play at the top top level.Â
Unbelievable footballer. So much potential â and he reminds me a little bit, technically how he is, so silky, of, again another big statement â that Luka Modric sort of vibe, and Joe Cole. Phenomenal talent.â
He also gave a shoutout to Callum Olusesi, saying: âThereâs another one, Callum Olusesi, heâs been on the bench a few times [for the first team], this season for Tottenham, another young player. Can play as a holding midfielder, play as an eight, play as a ten. Still developing, but great potential.Â
Furthermore, he had some kind words Kieran Morgan, who left Spurs this summer, and is doing well for himself at Championship side QPR. The striker said these three players stood out the most during his time as a Spurs U18 coach.Â
Some fans have been surprised that Hall has not had a sniff in the first team so far this season, particularly amidst the ridiculous injury crisis. The midfield, whilst still not completely full strength, has been the least injury impacted part of the side â but even those that are playing, have not been showing their best form.
For Hall to not have even made the bench, like Olusei has as Defoe mentions, does feel a bit harsh. Nevertheless, some positive words from his former coach, that does make you excited about what could be to come in the future.Â
