Johnny Cardoso has just made an admission about his plans for the future, which potentially comes as a blow for Tottenham amidst their option to land him this summer.
Over the past few weeks, some sources have treated it as a foregone conclusion that Johnny Cardoso is on his way to Tottenham, which is understandable, given that the North London club have a £21m option to buy the midfielder this summer.
The Betis man has been in extremely impressive form over the last few months and the Tottenham hierarchy have reportedly been extremely impressed with Cardoso’s progress.
The USA international has emerged as one of the best midfielders in La Liga and one would assume that the Lilywhites may not be able to turn down a chance to sign a top-class operator for such a modest fee, particularly given their issues in the middle of the park.
Cardoso makes an admission about his future
However, even if Tottenham Hotspur were to activate the clause, the Premier League side may still need Johnny Cardoso to greenlight the move, which is why the midfielder’s latest admission could be a matter of concern.
The 23-year-old has now insisted that he wants to remain at Betis for many years, admitting that he is very keen to get the club into the Champions League.
When asked about his future, Cardoso told El Chiringuito (as relayed by Estadio Deportivo): “I’m very happy here and I hope I can continue enjoying myself at Betis for many years to come. The Champions League? It’s our dream and our goal.”

Why Tottenham will not worry about Johnny Cardoso deal
While the midfielder’s latest words may raise a few concerns at Spurs, the Lilywhites will likely not be losing too much sleep over these comments.
This is because various Spanish outlets have reported over recent weeks that Real Betis are banking on Tottenham taking up the option to sign Cardoso.
The La Liga club are not said to be in a great position financially and are thus relying on the sale of the American to boost their coffers.
