Dan Bardell believes Tottenham’s new signing Archie Gray will replace Oliver Skipp in the squad.
Archie Gray had an impressive debut season with Leeds United’s first team last summer. He featured in over 50 matches for them and managed to make quite a name for himself. On the back of his exceptional performances in the Championship, Tottenham went hard to sign him and managed to acquire his services in a deal worth up to £40 million.
Journalist Dan Bardell feels Gray is a great addition to the Tottenham squad and he will end up replacing Oliver Skipp in their squad.
While taking to Tottenham News, he said: “I actually think he’ll play more regularly than people imagine.
“It’s interesting because he played a lot of football at right-back and when Spurs are missing their full-backs they found it hard to find someone to do what they do.
“Archie Gray isn’t a full-back but is very adept playing there and stepping up and into midfield. I think he’ll also get a fair amount of game time in the middle of the park so I think it’s definitely an upgrade to the squad.
“Gray probably takes Oliver Skipp’s place in the squad and I think that is a positive for Tottenham’s squad.“
Bardell believes Gray will play a big part in his first season at the club. His versatility could be a huge boost for him as well as Ange Postecoglou. The majority of his appearances for Leeds came as a right-back which suggests he could help Spurs out in a situation where Pedro Porro is unavailable.
Not only can he provide cover at right-back, but the Leeds graduate is also expected to have a significant amount of game time in the centre of the park given the kind of qualities he has. The versatile teenager’s arrival will see Oliver Skipp go further down the pecking order.
Skipp has been a part of the Tottenham setup since 2013, he was promoted to their first team in 2018 but hasn’t been able to establish himself there. Gray’s arrival could actually help the English defensive midfielder look for a move away from the club in search of regular first-team action.
