Manchester City have seen many players from their squad take part in the 2024 European Championship.

Specifically, the Blues had more squad players (14) selected to feature in the tournament than any other Premier League club.

Ahead of Sunday’s final between Spain and England, which will see Rodri take on Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and John Stones, a journalist has shared some insight into another player who could take part in this big game that City have got on their transfer radar.

Journalist shares details on Man City’s interest in Eberechi Eze

Speaking in a recent video shared on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, journalist Ben Jacobs had this to say on the current situation concerning reported City and Tottenham Hotspur target Eberechi Eze.

He said: “The Euros slows things down. So it’s like a [Conor] Gallagher situation. The release clause is there. The release clause will be handled in the same way as the Michael Olise one, to my understanding.

“So you go through the front door, you speak to [Crystal] Palace, you ask to speak to the player, the offers get presented to Eberechi Eze. So even though there’s no formal deadline to bid or anything like that, there’s a domino effect. And when one club inquires, everyone will inquire.

“So as soon as the Euros finishes, we might see some movement on this one. You’re absolutely right that Manchester City like the player, but Tottenham are there. And I think that they’re ahead if you like, in terms of how concrete they are, that he may be someone that they wish to move on than Arsenal who have been linked with Eberechi Eze as well.

“So Manchester City and Tottenham are the two front runners at the moment in terms of how active they are. But you don’t get these deals done if you’re prepared to pay the release clause or match the release clause by advancing club to club.

“Otherwise, we would have seen some progress. You’ve got to speak to the player and the only way you can do that is by timing it right so as not to distract him and then having a conversation to see where his preference lies.

“From Palace’s perspective, there’s the release clause. So they can never say never, but they’ve lost Olise. There’s interest in Mark Guehi. They don’t want to lose all their stars.

“They finished the season very positively under an excellent manager in [Oliver] Glasner. So the ideal scenario from Palace’s point of view is they’ll reward Eberechi Eze with new terms and he’ll stay.

“But as long as that release clause is there and suitors feel it’s at relative market value, there’s not much that Crystal Palace can do.

“So this is probably going to be a late July, early August type thing after the Euros, when he’s had time to consider what he wants to do. He’s aware already of the Tottenham interest, but nothing can happen at this point due to Euro 2024.”

Eze would be an exciting signing for City

The midfielder, who City were linked with during the previous summer transfer window according to the Daily Mail, reportedly has a release clause worth £60m (via Daily Mail) in his current contract at Palace.

In his previous Premier League season, the Englishman, who recently said he’s been impressed with Phil Foden’s technical ability, ended the campaign with 11 goals and four assists in 27 appearances.
