It was a busy Tuesday for a number of our players on international duty with UEFA Nations League on the agenda.
The evening started with Olga Ahtinen picking up an assist in Finland’s 3-0 win over Anna Csiki’s Hungary in their Nations League contest. Olga completed 74 minutes, Eveliina Summanen played the full 90 minutes, while Anna led the line for her nation before being substituted in the 84th-minute.
Martha Thomas was a second half substitute for Scotland in their heavy 6-1 defeat to Germany at Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg. The forward was introduced on 65 minutes as Germany netted six goals in the second half to turn around a one-goal deficit.
Elsewhere, in the same Nations League group as Thomas’ Scotland, Lize Kop marked her return to the Netherlands’ starting XI with a 3-1 victory over Austria in Altach.
Having last worn her country’s colours last summer, our shot stopper earned her 14th cap for her country and completed the full 90 minutes as the Netherlands moved level on points with Germany in their Nations League group after four games.
Luana Buhler started and completed the full match for Switzerland in their dramatic six-goal thriller with Iceland in Reykjavik.
Switzerland raced into a two-goal lead but was pegged back on the stroke of half time by Karolina Lea Vilhjalmsdottir. Although the Luana’s nation reinstated their two goal-advantage just a minute into the restart, a brace from Karolina Lea in the second half saw the points shared.
Amanda Nilden and Matilda Vinberg were late second half substitutes in Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Wales in their Nations League fixture.
The duo were both introduced on 78 minutes as it ended all square at Gamla Ullevi in Goteborg after Hannah Cain’s leveller cancelled out Magdalena Eriksson opener in the early stages of the second half.
Earlier in the week, it was another positive showing for defender Charlotte Grant as Australia completed the double over Korea Republic with a 2-0 win on Monday.
The full-back started back-to-back games for the Matildas and once again completed the full match in Newcastle, Australia, while Clare Hunt stepped off the bench on the hour mark.
