David Moyes recorded his first win since returning to Everton for a second stint on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Toffees eased some of the pressure with a big performance and win at Goodison Park.

Everton raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye both scoring before Archie Gray put into his own net.

Everton had chances to increase their lead in the second-half, but allowed Spurs back in.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison set up a nervy finish. But Everton held out for three big points.

It was a much-improved performance from Everton, although Moyes will be frustrated about the two goals conceded towards the end.

But it was a day full of positives, and for Jesper Lindstrom there has been plenty of praise.

It hasn’t been an easy start for Lindstrom at Everton.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

He joined the club in the summer on loan from Napoli, but under Sean Dyche he struggled to make the impact expected.

He’s still yet to open his account for Everton, who can sign the player permanently via a buy option this summer, but his performance against Spurs was very encouraging and Leon Osman made a big claim about the Dane on Match of the Day 2.

He said: “Jesper Lindstrom was asked to do a bit of a hybrid role. He was asked to be a right winger in possession and right wing-back out of possession

“I thought it was his best game. It allowed him to press, it allowed him to get on the ball. It allowed him to be a real part in what Everton did positively.”

Some fans felt Lindstrom was actually Everton’s best performer against Spurs, despite not scoring or assisting.

After the win, it was reported that Moyes wanted to give Lindstrom more game time, and many Everton fans will certainly hope to see that moving forward.

Lindstrom stats vs Tottenham

Lindstrom didn’t start regularly under Dyche, with Jack Harrison often preferred on that right side.

Fans had been vocal about Harrison starting so much, with many unable to understand why he was picked over Lindstrom.

Moyes did pick Harrison against Aston Villa, but decided to give Lindstrom a chance to shine against Spurs in a hybrid role – and he really did thrive.

As per Sofascore data, Lindstrom completed 19/21 (90%) passes, and also contested a whopping 21 duels (winning seven).

His nine defensive actions were only beaten by the two centre-halves James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, and that tally was more than any Spurs player.

It’ll be interesting to see if Moyes looks to get Lindstrom playing that role again. On the basis of Sunday, he would perhaps be foolish not to, as it could be the making of him.
