Tottenham have work to do in the summer transfer market as they look to kick on after a difficult 2024/25 campaign. A top-half Premier League finish looks unlikely as things stand right now but Spurs can still finish the term with silverware as they attempt to triumph in the Europa League.
Injuries have proved incredibly costly over the course of the season and Ange Postecoglou went for extremely long periods with only the same small group of players to work with. Things do look better in terms of Tottenham's squad at present but new additions need to be brought in to ensure they aren't left too short again.
Much has been made over the course of the season that Liverpool are in danger of losing Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah on free transfers due to their contract status. A number of other players will also be out of contract come July 1 and that presents Johan Lange and Tottenham with the chance to sign some very talented stars for absolutely nothing.
With that in mind, football.london has taken a look at five players who are set to be available on free transfers this summer.
Jonathan David (Lille)
Jonathan David still remains a Lille player despite plenty of talk regarding a transfer away from the Ligue 1 club over the past few years. However, this summer finally looks to be the time when he will exit as his contract expires very soon.
David certainly won't be short on offers after plundering 107 goals in 224 games for Lille, with 23 of them coming this season. The Canada international could be quite the bargain for prospective new clubs if he can transfer his form in France to his new team.
Amid Richarlison's injury struggles in his three seasons with Tottenham, the north London club could really do with signing a new striker ahead of the 2025/26 season. David would be the perfect addition going on his prowess in front of goal.
Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich)
Tottenham require a bit more quality in the wide areas as they look to take their attack to the very next level. Well, Leroy Sane is on course to depart Bayern Munich on a free transfer unless he is to agree on fresh terms before the end of June.
Sane, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, has plenty of experience at top of European football and his spell in the Premier League with Manchester City means he could hit the ground running if he is to return to the UK. As far as free transfers go, this would be quite the coup.
Angel Gomes (Lille)
Tottenham have yet to find the perfect solution to their woes in the No.6 position. It must be at the top of Lange's priority list in the summer.
Former Manchester United player Angel Gomes would certainly offer Spurs options in the middle of the park as he can play in a range of different roles. The 24-year-old is a very impressive technical player and he was rewarded for his form in France with his first England call-up last year.
Gomes, who was born locally in Edmonton, is another who will have teams after him for the 2025/26 season, with a Premier League return potentially on the cards.
Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)
Tottenham require a new full-back this summer as they bid to improve their playing squad. With left-back seen as an area that needed addressing before Djed Spence's emergence in the Spurs XI and his incredible performances from the left, right-back may be the position to look at right now.
Former Tottenham man Kyle Walker-Peters is certainly someone who could provide cover for Pedro Porro at right-back and he would also help the club out with their homegrown numbers. Spurs have been unable to fill all four club-trained places in their European squad this season, with the 27-year-old able to be included in that category following his time coming through Tottenham's academy as a youngster.
Roony Bardghji (F.C. Copenhagen)
Roony Bardghji came to the attention of a number of top clubs in 2023/24 following a standout season for F.C. Copenhagen. The right-winger has not featured this campaign due to a serious knee injury sustained last May but hopefully it shouldn't be too long until he's involved again.
The hope will be that the Sweden Under-21s ace can return to the high levels he was producing prior to his injury setback. If that is indeed the case, the Swedish starlet will have a host of interested clubs across Europe. With Spurs building a team for the future, Bardghji could be a great option.
