Tottenham Hotspur broke their club-record transfer to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window, and while he has done well, he has not got enough rest due to injury problems to Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

Given the hectic schedule, Ange Postecoglou’s side have to negotiate in the next couple of months, it becomes imperative for the Lilywhites to bring in a quality back-up for Solanke in the 2025 transfer intervals.

According to a report from The Athletic, Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in signing LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.

The Canadian international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), and his possible availability has increased interest in his services. Some of Europe’s bigwigs, such as Juventus, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid, are keen to get his signature done—either at a reduced price in January or when he becomes a free agent.

From the Premier League, Spurs aren’t the only club interested in Jonathan David. Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on his situation. The striker’s contract at Lille expires at the end of this season, so time could be running out for the French club to cash in on him.

The Ligue 1 outfit could accept offers in the region of €20-30m to avoid losing David on a free in the summer. The North American striker has nine goals in 10 Ligue 1 starts so far this season, demonstrating why he is such a sought-after commodity across Europe. He certainly seems like an intriguing market opportunity for many clubs including Spurs, who have to sign an upgrade for the injury-prone Richarlison.

The Brooklyn-born talent—long linked with a move to White Hart Lane—is a clinical finisher in front of goal and certainly someone who could be an asset for a big club like Tottenham. He might take the pressure off Solanke to score goals regularly for Big Ange’s side whilst adding much-needed depth in the striker department.

David would be a smart option to keep Solanke on his toes as well, potentially breeding healthy competition within themselves. With plenty of clubs vying for David’s signature, the Lilywhites must act faster than all of them to bag his signature at a bargain price in January.
