Mathys Tel checked into Hotspur Way late on Monday evening as he became our third addition of the winter window.

Joining on loan for the remainder of the season from FC Bayern, there is also an option to make the 19-year-old forward's move permanent in the summer.

Here's all you need to know about our new front man and his journey so far...

Born in Sarcelles, in Paris’ northern suburbs in 2005, Mathys played for a number of local clubs as a boy and earned entrance to the world-renowned Clairefontaine academy for young players in the Île-de-France region.

Joining the esteemed academy at Stade Rennias in 2020, he became the Brittany club’s youngest ever player on his debut in August, 2021. The following month, he featured off the bench as we visited Roazhon Park in a UEFA Europa Conference League fixture, a 2-2 group stage draw.

His first season of senior football culminated with captaining his country to glory at the UEFA Under-17 European Championships in the summer 2022. He scored three goals en route to Les Bleuets’ third title in the competition.

European football took notice of his dazzling displays and, that summer, Bayern made the move to take Mathys to Germany.

He needed little time to make his mark at Bayern, becoming the Bavarian club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in a DFB-Pokal win, breaking the record set by Jamal Musiala.

In a talented group of Bayern forwards, Mathys has stood out time and again in his time in Munich, including against Premier League opposition. He came off the bench to score the decisive goal in a September, 2023, win over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.

Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Mathys shows willingness to take on his man and put his pace and balance to good use. Composed in front of goal and more than happy to have a crack from distance, he will surely find opportunities to excel in Lilywhite.
