Tottenham Hotspur made some necessary additions in its squad in the winter transfer window by securing the loan signing of highly-rated French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old arrived at Spurs for the remainder of the season, with the club holding an option to make the move permanent in the summer for a reported fee of £50 million.

Signing him was no easy task, as Tel initially refused to join Spurs despite the two clubs agreeing a deal. However, a call from Ange Postecoglou helped him change his mind as a last-minute loan transfer was completed.

Since joining the North London side, Tel has been gradually integrating into Ange Postecoglou’s squad. Wasting no time in making an impact, Tel scored his first goal for the club in stoppage time during a 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Aston Villa. And while, he has not scored since, he has looked threatening whenever he has been on the pitch.

Mathys Tel eager to get close with Bissouma, Sarr, Odobert and Son

In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Tel expressed his excitement about getting to know his new teammates. He highlighted Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Wilson Odobert, and captain Heung-min Son as the players he is most eager to connect with.

When asked by the presented about which Tottenham teammate he is most excited to get to know, Tel said:

“The French player like Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Wilson Odobert and specially (Heung-min) Son.”

Tel, who developed through Rennes’ youth system before earning a move to Bayern Munich in 2022, has already built a strong reputation as one of the brightest young attacking prospects in Europe.

During his time with Bayern, he became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. He also showcased his ability in the Champions League, netting decisive late winners against Manchester United and Copenhagen during the 2023–24 campaign.

However, with limited opportunities under Vincent Kompany at Bayern, Tel sought regular first-team football, prompting his loan move to Tottenham.

As Tel looks to settle in and forge connections with his teammates, it remains to be seen whether the club will try signing him on a permanent deal in the summer.
