Raso, Grant & Vinberg impress for their nation

It was a busy first international window of the year, with a number of our players in action over the last 10 days.

Hayley Raso netted her 21st goal on her 95th cap for Australia in their 2-1 defeat to Colombia on Thursday evening with Charlotte Grant providing the assist for her Club team-mate.

Raso also registered an assist in the 2-1 loss to USA three days before, her pinpoint cross headed home by Michelle Heyman from inside the box. She started and completed all three matches, while 'Charli' made one substitute appearance before starting the last two games and Clare Hunt was in the starting XI against Japan and Colombia.

The UEFA Women’s Nations League was on the agenda for many of our European players, with Matilda Vinberg certainly impressing for Sweden in the second game of their group phase.

The 21-year-old provided the assist for Filippa Angeldal’s opener in the 1-1 draw with Wales and was later named Player of the Match for her nation. Defender Amanda Nilden also started in that game, while Josefine Rybrink was an unused substitute.

Martha Thomas featured in both fixtures for Scotland, a 1-0 defeat to Austria before a 2-1 loss at home to the Netherlands. Our number 17 started in Austria, completing just under an hour, before she was a second half substitute at Hampden Park.

Meanwhile, defender Luana Buhler started and completed a full 90 minutes for Switzerland across two games, helping them to a goalless draw with Iceland before a narrow 2-1 defeat to Norway.

Jess Naz was a late second half substitute for England to earn her sixth cap for the Lionesses as they ran out 1-0 winners over Spain at Wembley Stadium.

In Group Three of League B, Olga Ahtinen earned her 70th cap for Finland in the 2-1 loss to Serbia, with the midfielder playing a full match, while she came off the bench in the final quarter-of-an-hour to help her nation overcome Anna Csiki’s Hungary in the second game of their group phase.

Anna played both games as Hungary enjoyed a mixed start to their Nations League campaign, beating Belarus 2-0 in the opening game of their group phase before suffering that 1-0 defeat to Finland.

Back outside of Europe, Rosella Ayane featured in Morocco’s two international friendlies, coming on as a second half substitute in both encounters. Coming on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 win over Ghana, the forward also stepped off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Haiti.

Goalkeeper Becky Spencer registered a clean sheet in Jamaica’s first game of the international window, a 2-0 win over Peru, while midfielder Drew Spence was also named in the starting XI and completed 90 minutes.

Rounding up the younger age groups, Ella Morris started in England Under-23s 3-2 loss to Germany with Lenna Gunning-Williams a late substitute in that clash. Ella retain her place in the starting XI for the 1-0 win over France at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium.

Araya Dennis made substitute appearances in all three games for England Under-19s in the Albir Garden Tournament, with the Young Lionesses winning their first two games against USA and Spain 2-0 before overcoming the Netherlands on penalties.
