Tottenham Hotspur were active in the January transfer window, bringing in a few reinforcements in attack to bolster their squad.
However, they were also keen on signing a new midfielder, with Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi among their targets.
Tottenham tested the waters with a move for Davide Frattesi in January
Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), in their latest report have confirmed that Spurs ‘tested the waters’ with an attempted move in January. It states that the North London club showed a keen interest in the Italian international and even made preliminary inquiries about a possible transfer.
However, the report explains that the move did not advance due to the Italian club put up big price tag on him to fend off any interest in their player.
Frattesi remains a highly regarded player at the Giuseppe Meazza, with his contract running until 2028. His current market value stands at approximately €32 million. While he has been an important squad member for Inter, his recent lack of consistent starts in the league has led to speculation about his long-term future.
The 25-year-old initially joined Inter from Sassuolo in July 2023 on a loan deal with an obligation to buy. He made an immediate impact by scoring his first goal in a resounding 5-1 Derby della Madonnina victory over AC Milan.
Frattesi also played a significant role in Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana success, netting a goal in the semi-final win over Lazio before appearing in the final, where Inter secured the trophy with a 1-0 victory over Napoli. His stoppage-time winner against Udinese in April further demonstrated his ability to deliver in crucial moments. The Nerazzurri ultimately clinched the Serie A title with a 2-1 triumph over AC Milan.
This season, Frattesi has registered four goals and two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, taking his overall career tally to 56 goals and 26 assists across all levels and competitions.
Spurs could revive interest in the summer
With his future at Inter uncertain, it has been suggested that Tottenham will revisit their interest in Frattesi during the upcoming summer transfer window.
His versatility and ability to contribute in key moments could make him an ideal addition to Ange Postecoglou’s midfield as Spurs look to strengthen their squad for next season.
