While Tottenham may have found a few young gems in the transfer market over the last couple of years, there is one player that Sandro believes the Lilywhites missed a trick on, and he’s annoyed that Chelsea got there first.

Spurs should have signed Brazilian starlet

Obviously, Spurs have scouts all over the world looking for the best young talent to feed into their own pipeline. The problem is, so do other clubs, and sometimes a rising star can be missed, or sometimes they will decide to join a different project.

Chelsea have a knack for unearthing great young players, particularly in South America, a region Tottenham have not always had the most luck in.

The Blues snapped up Willian Estevao this summer, but the 17-year-old will not arrive at Stamford Bridge until next year. He’s having a brilliant season in Brazil with Palmeiras though, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists in the league so far (Transfermarkt).

But, for Sandro, this prodigious talent should not be planning his future with Chelsea, he should be heading to Tottenham.

Speaking to PL Brasil, the former Spurs midfielder said: “All I can say about Estevão Willian is that Spurs should have bought him first. I’m not happy that he signed for Chelsea, but he’s the kind of player who can change Brazil’s future.”

Is Estevao ready for the Premier League?

Naturally, any player so young will be questioned as to his readiness to compete in the English top flight, but Sandro has no concerns about his teenage compatriot.

He added: “He’s a top player and I think he’s ready to play in the Premier League, as long as Chelsea give him time to find his best level and take the next step.

“He is a great player and has shown in recent years that he can face players, shoot and is very skilled. He is an exciting player to watch. There is a huge difference between football in Brazil and the Premier League, but if he trains hard, he could be one of the best players for Chelsea and Brazil.”
