So it seems like West Ham United could be dealt a very big blow by Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui has plenty of key issues to solve this summer, but Tottenham could scupper one of his key plans.
The summer transfer window is a vital one for the Hammers boss, and he’s said to be prioritising two signings right now – Max Kilman and Jonathan David.
Whilst they would both be fantastic additions for West Ham, they won’t nearly be enough on their own to transform us into top six challengers.
One area of the pitch that I think is going under the radar when it comes to positions that need strengthening is our central midfield department.
The Hammers are a team that desperately lacks any kind of energy, power or athleticism in the middle of the park.
Lopetegui needs to bring in some competition and cover for Edson Alvarez but also someone with a completely different profile to the Mexico international.
And that’s what makes the latest transfer claim so frustrating…

Tottenham set to deal West Ham summer transfer window blow
The Hammers and Spurs are fierce Premier League rivals.
They had the better of us on the pitch last season, taking four points from the two league encounters.
And it seems like they could be set to get the better of us once again this summer, this time in the transfer market.
Tutto Juve claim that Spurs are leading the race to sign Youssouf Fofana from Monaco this summer.
The Hammers have been regularly linked with a move to sign the France international over the past year or so, and were quoted just £13 million for his signature a couple of weeks back.
What an unbelievable steal that would be in this day and age.
The 25-year-old has an enviable physique, but he’s not all about pace and power, far from it in fact.
The Frenchman is very good with the ball at his feet. He has been described as an ‘unreal’ midfielder by Monaco’s official website.
In 32 games for Monaco last season, Fofana bagged four goals and four assists. During those appearances, he averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and one clearance per game (Who Scored).
With his pace, power, energy, dynamism and athleticism, the Monaco midfielder would be the perfect additions to the Hammers’ midfield ranks this summer.
For just £13 million, bringing him to the London Stadium should be an absolute no-brainer for Lopetegui in my opinion.
Unfortunately for West Ham though, it seems like Tottenham are in pole position to sign Fofana in the summer transfer window.
