It’s fair to say that if we’d spent our best years playing alongside Luka Modric and Gareth Bale at Tottenham, we’d look back on it fondly as well. And that’s certainly the case for Wilson Palacios.
He’s been talking to Diario La Prensa today and looked back on his career and the “beautiful experiences” he had at Tottenham alongside the duo.
The 40-year-old is now retired after ending his career at Real Sociedad in Argentina in January 2020 following spells with CD Olimpia, Birmingham, Wigan, Tottenham, Stoke City and Miami FC also.
The best period of his career was undoubtedly between 2008 and 2011 when he joined Wigan in a €1.3m deal and then joined Tottenham a year later in a €15m move.
He would spend two years with Spurs, making 86 appearances in total, the most he managed for any club during his career.
His time at Tottenham saw him playing alongside players who would go on to become greats of the game such as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
They, of course, went on to have highly respected careers at Real Madrid, winning numerous trophies and starring in the Champions League in particular.
Palacios certainly enjoyed his time playing with them and still looks back on it fondly four years on from his retirement.
“Playing with so many stars like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale are beautiful experiences,” he said.
I talk to Luka sometimes; we have a good relationship. I congratulate him, my friend and brother tells me. It is difficult for him (to visit Honduras), since he is in competition and when he is on vacation we throw it at him.
“He is a Monster, he takes good care of himself, he has not had any injuries, and he is a professional.”
