It has been reported that Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on Joao Gomes despite the midfielder penning a new contract at Wolves, but the Lilywhites have their work cut out to agree on a deal for the Brazilian.

Gomes has emerged as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League since swapping Brazilian football for Wolves back in 2023.

The 24-year-old’s consistent performances in the Midlands this season have unsurprisingly brought him to the attention of a lot of big hitters, including Tottenham Hotspur.

It was reported last month that Tottenham are plotting a move for Gomes but the Lilywhites received some bad news regarding the player recently.

Wolves confirmed last week that Gomes had signed a new five-year contract at the club, which seemed to put an end to Spurs’ pursuit of the player, but a new report suggests otherwise.

Tottenham still interested in Joao Gomes but there is one problem

TBR Football have now claimed that the midfielder’s contract extension has not put off Tottenham, who still remain ‘keen’ on landing the player.

However, Spurs are not Gomes’ only admirers, with Aston Villa and Liverpool also determined to secure the Brazil international’s services.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet says that all three clubs face a ‘tough battle’ to prise the player away from Molineux Stadium this summer.

Wolves now hold all the power after the midfielder’s contract extension and it would take a ‘substantial’ offer to convince Vítor Pereira’s men to cash in on their star man.

The Midlands club are of the opinion that Gomes is up there with the best midfielders in Europe and expect top dollar for their priced asset.

Spurs also eyeing a move for another Wolves star

Gomes is not the only Wolves man on Tottenham’s radar, with the North Londoners also allegedly plotting a move for the midfielder’s compatriot.

It has been widely reported that Matheus Cunha is on the top of Spurs’ wishlist this summer as they attempt to add more firepower to their frontline.
