Tottenham are making same defensive error over and over, screenshots reveal

The inconsistencies in Tottenham Hotspur’s form this season are becoming a real concern, but digging deeper into some of the problems leading to these results has revealed one particularly worrying pattern when it comes to the goals the team are conceding.

Frustrating run of results for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur just cannot put together a meaningful run of good results this season, and just when it appears they have turned a corner with a positive result against a top team, Ange Postecoglou’s side slip up against a so-called lesser team soon after.

In the last fortnight, we have seen Spurs beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and demolish Aston Villa 4-1 in the league. Since those games, the Lilywhites have lost to Galatasaray and Ipswich Town.

Prior to that, Spurs had beaten West Ham 4-1 and edged a tight game against AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in the Europa League, before losing to Crystal Palace.

Over that period of time, win or lose, Tottenham have conceded sloppy goals in situations that would appear to be very easily avoidable, leaving fans mightily concerned about the defensive strength of the team.

Tottenham Hotspur defenders are letting the side down

In a range of images shared on X by the YidVids account, a serious issue in defensive areas has been highlighted, with four goals conceded in different games from the same spot on the pitch, all within the last three weeks.

As you can see from the images below, Tottenham have conceded goals against Ipswich, West Ham, Manchester City, and Crystal Palace from the right-hand side of the six-yard box.

In the replies to this post, one fan said: “It’s where you’d expect Pedro Porro to be or one of the centre-backs. Every time we keep being exposed in that exact area.”

Another wrote: “80% of our goals conceded come from that back post. Between Cristian Romero, Porro and Brennan Johnson there’s a serious weak link — none of them can defend the back post.”

Spurs are being left behind due to defensive errors

This problem is costing Tottenham valuable points and is the main reason the team are now looking likely to be left behind in the Premier League while other clubs make vast improvements this season. A cup run is crucial for Postecoglou this term, but to finish lower than fifth in the league would be a big disappointment and a real step backwards.
