Tottenham Hotspur have endured a difficult campaign, currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League and suffering early eliminations from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. However, despite the challenges, one of the positives to come out of this season is the resurgence of Djed Spence.

Spence, who returned to Spurs earlier this season following loan spells, was initially not part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

However, due to a defensive injury crisis, he was given opportunities and has since delivered impressive performances, forcing Ange Postecoglou to change his stance on him.

His strong form has now sparked speculation about his long-term future, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are considering extending his contract beyond its current expiration in 2028.

Tottenham could reward Djed Spence with a new contract

Spurs insider John Wenham has hinted that a new deal could be in the pipeline, potentially keeping Spence at the club until 2030 or 2031.

Wenham also highlighted Spence’s increasing value, estimating that the full-back is already worth over £30 million, with his price expected to rise even further due to his versatility and homegrown status.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the pundit stated:

“He has got a contract with the club until 2028.

“Based on his current form, I wouldn’t be surprised if another contract extension is being lined up for the summer which would see Spence extend until 2030 or 2031.

“I just think he is reaching new heights now, and he is easily worth £30million-plus already, and that value will only continue to skyrocket. He is homegrown and he can play on both sides of the pitch.”

Spence’s journey at Tottenham since signing in 2022

Spence’s journey at Tottenham has had its up and downs. After signing with the club in 2022, Conte made it public that the player was not his preferred signing. He struggled to break into the first team and was sent on multiple loan spells. However, he returned to North London ahead of the ongoing season and has since taken full advantage of his opportunities.

The 24-year-old has made 20 appearances across all competitions thus far, contributing two goals and two assists. He has also impressed by playing as a left-back, despite being a natural right-back.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola recently praising him following Spurs’ narrow 1-0 defeat to City.

With his continued development, Tottenham may see Spence as a crucial part of their defence, making a contract extension a logical step in securing his long-term future.
