Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer dealings has had its fair share of hits and misses over the last few years. Johan Lange is now leading the club’s recruitment drive and helped the North Londoners make some exciting signings during the past summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have been underwhelming this season, failing to hit top form due to several injury problems. The attacking department has largely been hit with injuries, with players such as Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert currently sidelined. Son Heung-min has missed a few games with a hamstring concern as well, thus accentuating Spurs’ need for a wide forward.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are among seven clubs interested in signing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams. The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSG are all monitoring his development at San Mames.

Nico Williams emerged as one of Europe’s most promising wingers last season, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao. He made significant contributions that helped Spain win the 2024 European Champions in Germany, where he scored the opening goal in the final against England and recorded three goal involvements in the tournament.
The Pamplona-born talent has not been as productive as last season, registering just a goal and three assists in 13 La Liga appearances to date. Yet, there has been no shortage of interest in Nico Williams, who has a €58 million release clause in his contract that expires in June 2027 (Transfermarkt).
A versatile forward, the Spanish international can operate on either flank but has predominantly featured on the left for Athletic Bilbao this season. Tottenham must seek a new left-winger next year, given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Son Heung-min and Timo Werner, and Richarlison’s injury problems.

Son is in the final year of his contract and has yet to be handed a new deal. The chiefs at the Hotspur Way are planning to exercise a 12-month extension in the South Korean’s contract rather than offering him fresh terms as they aim to keep their wage bill intact. Spurs are yet to decide whether to sign Werner permanently from RB Leipzig having re-signed him on a season-long loan in June.
While the Lilywhites have invested in Wilson Odobert and agreed on a deal with Gangwon FC for South Korean talent Yang Min-hyeok, who is poised to arrive in January, we must still continue bringing in the best talents in world football and that includes Williams.
