Tottenham are keen on acquiring the services of Arsenal goalkeeping target Joan Garcia.
Hugo Lloris was Tottenham’s first-choice in goal for over a decade but it was time for a change between the sticks last summer with the former French international heading into the final phase of his career. Spurs ended up signing FC Empoli shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario to be their new number one.
While the 27-year-old did a decent job in his debut season at the club, certain weaknesses in his game were highlighted on multiple occasions and Ange Postecoglou now seems keen on signing another goalkeeper this summer. According to a report from AS, Tottenham are monitoring RCD Espanyol sensation Joan Garcia ‘extremely closely’ as they consider adding him to their squad.
Garcia has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2021 but he had his real break in the second half of last season. The 23-year-old made the number-one position his own, he featured in 14 league games in the Spanish second division and even had excellent performances in the playoffs to help them secure promotion to the top flight.
Following their return to La Liga, the Rastar Group are looking to cash in on the young shot-stopper who has a €25 million release clause.
While rivals Arsenal are also keen on signing Garcia as they look for a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, Tottenham seem quite serious about their pursuit as they feel the Espanyol graduate can compete with Vicario for a place in the starting XI. With him available for a bargain price, Spurs can surely go in and sign him without much trouble.
