Ange Postecoglou could hand Antonin Kinsky his Tottenham Hotspur debut against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup just a few days after him completing a January transfer. This past weekend, Spurs confirmed the arrival of Kinsky in a £12.5million deal from Slavia Prague in order to assist their ongoing goalkeeper crisis.
For the recent clash against Newcastle, Postecoglou was forced to start Brandon Austin between the sticks with Fraser Forster, who had been deployed in the enforced absence of Guglielmo Vicario due an to injury, unavailable with an illness bug that went around the Tottenham squad.
The 26-year-old impressed on his senior debut, but could immediately go back to being third-choice with Forster likely to be back available and a new goalkeeper signed. There was doubt over whether Kinsky could feature, but any potential issues look to have been resolved with the 21-year-old training with his new teammates on Monday.
Postecoglou will also be boosted by the return of Rodrigo Bentancur from suspension - but with that comes a double blow as Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison are both unavailable for the first leg having been booked against Manchester United in the previous round.
Alongside those two absentees, the Lilywhites are still dealing with a horrendous injury crisis and while that could soon be eased, it won't arrive in time for Liverpool. "In terms of injuries no-one is back," Postecoglou said in a press conference.
"Mikey (Moore) could possibly be available on the subs bench. Everyone else from the weekend certainly feel better, Radu (Dragusin) has recovered, Archie (Gray) is better. They were the main ones. Deki (Kulusevski) was under the weather but he is good. Pretty much as it was on the weekend plus Bentancur minus the other two."
Asked specifically about Richarlison, the Spurs manager added: "He's training. The whole plan with him, with what has happened this year, was to give him two full solid weeks of training. His second week will be next week and if he gets through that he will be fine."
With so many players unavailable, a number of decisions have already seemingly been made for Postecoglou, but he does face a rather big one in goal. Forster has struggled in recent weeks, with his confidence levels likely rather low, while Austin is potentially feeling on top of the world after his stint last Saturday.
On the other hand, while Kinsky is a long-term solution to Spurs' goalkeeper concerns, he could also be trusted by Postecoglou immediately having trained and been granted a work permit. With all that being said, football.london has taken a look at the 20-man squad Postecoglou could name.
