Tottenham keen on signing Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel on a permanent deal

With only a few days left for the January transfer window to slam shut, Tottenham Hotspur must act quickly to freshen up their squad to save their woeful campaign.

Languishing in a lowly 15th position in the Premier League table and considering the unprecedented injury situation they have witnessed, Spurs are in desperate need of new signings. Ange Postecoglou could certainly do with attacking reinforcements before next week’s transfer deadline given their growing injury crisis.

There appears to be genuine interest from the North Londoners in Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, who wants to leave the club in this transfer window in search of regular game time. Tottenham are one of the four Premier League clubs to have now gathered all information on the France youth international and also spoken to his representatives.

In a fresh update delivered by reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his official X account, Spurs had a director in attendance as Bayern Munich beat Slovan Bratislava 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they aim to complete the signing of Mathys Tel. They are ready to sign the forward permanently, as the race for the Bayern starlet is beginning to heat up with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United also keen.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, it was confirmed by Bayern sporting director Max Eberl following Bayern’s 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava that Tel has asked to leave the Allianz Arena. This has put a lot of clubs across Europe on red alert, as the Frenchman enters the final week of the transfer week as a highly coveted player. Bayern, for their part, are open to both a loan and a permanent deal.

Having shown a willingness to invest in a permanent transfer on Tel, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now learned that they would have to pay a huge fee in order to secure his signature. As per reputable RMC Sports reporter Fabrice Hawkins, Bayern have slapped a fee of around €50m-€60m on Tel’s head.

At 19, Tel would fit the profile of signings Spurs have done in recent years as part of their newfound transfer policy. The France under-21 international can operate on the left and through the middle as a No.9, and such versatility should give a big boost to Ange Postecoglou’s attacking unit currently crippled with injuries.
