Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has tricks up his sleeve, says Stefanutto

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been under immense pressure with the team not performing well in the Premier League, as well as, the domestic leagues. The Australian manager has been walking on thin ice and it is said that his job is on the line if results don’t seem to be improving.

But Shane Stefanutto, an ex-Brisbane Roar player who played under Ange, is not worried about Spurs’ lack of form. The retired Australian international believes that Ange Postecoglou will have a “Plan B” ready if needed to at least foresee the final months of what has been a tough season.

Stefanutto enjoyed a lot of success under Ange Postecoglou at Brisbane Roar and the pair also went on a 36-game unbeaten run in the league, clinching two titles during that time. However, the ex-player recalled experiencing a similar slump after the run ended, with them losing five games on the bounce, and Ange tweaking his tactics a little to put things back in the right place.

Stefanutto told ESPN,

“That was the only time Ange changed the system. At the time, it was called ‘Plan B.’ I later found out it was just to get our minds off losing and to refocus on playing football. After five games, we went back to our normal style.”

The ex-Australian international also added,

“We trained hard, we worked hard and we didn’t deviate. It would be: This is how we’re going to do it. And this is how we want to do it. It was always perform well and the results will take care of themselves.”

Shane Stefanutto strongly believes that Ange Postecoglou is the right man to take Tottenham Hotspur forward and needs to be given time to put his ideas in practice.

Ange Postecoglou needs to change his methods

Ange Postecoglou was plauded for his unique style of play when he first took charge of Tottenham Hotspur. The Australian manager had his team play fearless football with a defensive high line, midfielders constantly pressing in the final third and the full-backs overlapping on either side.

However, the Premier League is the best league in the world and playing high-tempo, transitional football is not sustainable. Other managers have also figured out how to set up their teams when they are facing Spurs. This should be the point where Ange tweaks his style of play and not be predictable. But it is clear to see that the 59-year-old is rigid, and he will not change his gameplan, no matter what the result is.

Ange Postecoglou has been heavily criticized for his team’s performance, and the fans have constantly urged the team to take control of games and lower the tempo when needed. The Spurs faithful will be hoping to see the “Plan B” being implemented by the 59-year-old if they want to have any chance of ending the season on a high.
