So far in this January transfer window Tottenham Hotspur have added just one body to their squad in the form of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. Young winger Yang Min-hyeok has also arrived, though that was a deal negotiated in the summer. And now, the young South Korean winger has joined Championship side Queens Park Rangers on loan.

With just a few days left for the window to slam shut, Spurs’ transfer priority appears to be recruiting a forward. The situation has been accentuated following a knee injury to Dominic Solanke. The England international is set for a spell on the sidelines until mid-March, which has emerged as a huge blow for Ange Postecoglou.

In addition to Solanke, Brennan Johnson has also been ruled out for a few weeks with injury, joining forwards Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert on the treatment table. Now, Spurs have set their sights on a Premier League striker.

According to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, Tottenham have joined Nottingham Forest in the race to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa. The North Londoners have opened talks with Brentford and have also contacted the striker’s representatives to express their interest.

Yoane Wissa has been one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League since arriving at Brentford from FC Lorient in 2021 for €10m. The DR Congo international has shone this season in the wake of Ivan Toney departing for cash-rich Saudi Arabia last summer, scoring 11 goals and providing 2 assists in the Premier League for the Bees.

The 28-year-old has formed a devastating partnership with Bryan Mbeumo in a two-pronged attack under the leadership of Thomas Frank, as Brentford sit 11th in the Premier League table. Mbeumo, who is also on the radar of Spurs, has 14 league goals this season as the pair seem to have struck a telepathic understanding with each other.

Wissa has a contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2026 with the option of a one-year extension (Transfermarkt), so Brentford will not easily part ways with their in-form forward. The West Londoners will be well within their rights to ask for a decent fee for the African star’s services should they decide to sell him before next week’s transfer deadline.

Solanke is out for the next six weeks, whilst other stars in their frontline haven’t produced the goods consistently in recent months, and Wissa would offer Big Ange’s side both quality and experience in the final third. That being said, it will be interesting to see whether our chiefs can agree a fee with Brentford for the Congolese’s signature.
