Tottenham are set to battle Liverpool and Chelsea for the signing of Atalanta star Ademola Lookman
Tottenham Hotspur have started working behind the scenes to improve the squad in the summer after a torrid 2024/25 campaign.
During the January transfer window, the North Londoners bolstered their squad with the signings of Antonin Kinsky, Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso. They are all proving to be quality, long-term additions to Ange Postecoglou’s squad. However, after an underwhelming season that currently sees the Lilywhites in the bottom half of the table, massive changes are expected to happen in the summer.
Spurs have been linked with Atalanta star Ademola Lookman in the past. Given the situation that has developed at the club, the player has every chance of leaving Bergamo at the end of this ongoing campaign, with the Premier League the most likely destination.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham have joined Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool for the signing of Ademola Lookman, who is not happy at Atalanta and has been exploring options for his next destination.
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has established himself as one of Serie A’s most dangerous attackers, amassing an impressive 49 goals and 23 assists in 108 competitive matches. He famously scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen last season, helping La Dea lift the trophy.
However, Lookman has been at the centre of speculation since his manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, labelled him “one of the worst penalty takers” after he missed a crucial spot kick in a defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League last month. The winger hit back at Gasperini in a statement on social media, in which he deemed his gaffer’s remarks as ‘deeply disrespectful.’
The Nigerian international responded to his manager and naysayers in perfect style, bagging an eye-catching brace in the 5-0 demolition of Empoli on February 23. While he couldn’t add to his tally in Atalanta’s 0-0 draw with Venezia last weekend, the 27-year-old remains one of the coveted commodities across Europe and his uncertain future in Bergamo has put clubs on red alert.
The aforementioned report adds Atalanta’s board prefers to sell the ex-RB Leipzig man outside of Italy, with offers expected to be around €45 million, plus performance-based bonuses. This gives Premier League teams an edge in the race for the explosive winger’s signature.
For Tottenham, there is a dire need to bring in a productive outlet from wide areas who possesses technical ability and flair, and by how Lookman has been performing in Serie A since last year, he fits the bill perfectly. The reigning African Player of The Year has come a long way from his failed stints in the Premier League, and now at 27, he is a mature and experienced campaigner perhaps waiting for a chance to go back to England and prove himself.

The exciting project at White Hart Lane would be perfect for the Nigerian as he will not only enhance Big Ange’s first XI but also add quality depth to the squad which is required for Spurs to challenge for trophies. His experience of the Premier League while at Everton is an added bonus. Thus, we must be all over Lookman’s signature in the summer.
