Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for Sam Johnstone in January.
According to Tottenham insider Paul O Keefe, the 31-year-old English goalkeeper is a ‘strong candidate’ as Spurs look to bring in a capable understudy to Guglielmo Vicario.
The Italian is currently sidelined with an injury and Spurs need alternatives. Signing a capable deputy would be a wise decision. Fraser Forster will be out of contract in the summer and his performances have been underwhelming.
Spurs need a better option at their disposal and Johnstone could be a quality addition. The 31-year-old is well-settled in the Premier League and he could make an instant impact at Spurs. It will be interesting to see if the North London club decide to come forward with an offer in the next few days.
Wolves might not be too keen on selling the player this month. They are very much in the race for survival and they will look to keep their best players at the club.
Johnstone could be tempted to join a club like Spurs if there is a concrete proposal on the table. It would be a step up in his career and he would get to play for a club capable of challenging for trophies.
Spurs will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification this season, but things have not gone according to plan for them so far. Injuries have hurt them dearly and they will look to bounce back during the second half of the season with the right additions in the transfer market.
Apart from a backup goalkeeper, Spurs should look to sign a quality central defender as well. Key players like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are sidelined with injury problems right now.
