Ange Postecoglou wants to keep hold of Son Heung-min at Tottenham Hotspur amid exit links
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min.
The South Korean star has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer after 10 seasons in English football, with cash-rich Saudi Pro League clubs willing to pay up to €50m for his signature.
Spurs activated a one-year extension in the versatile forward’s contract in January, securing his future at N17 until the end of the season. Before the extension was triggered, Son Heung-min had entered the final six months of his contract, which made him eligible to negotiate a move to a foreign club.
The Spurs captain’s powers have been diminishing since last year and it has reportedly left question marks over his long-term future and whether he will remain one of the first names on the team sheet when Ange Postecoglou gets all his forwards back from injury. This has left many fans questioning whether it is time for the club to part ways with him at the end of the season.
In Mikey Moore, Wilson Odobert and Yang Min-hyeok, Ange Postecoglou has plenty of options on the left wing to potentially succeed Son at Tottenham. If Spurs decide to sign Mathys Tel permanently from Bayern Munich at the end of the season following the player’s consent, the Frenchman will also be counted as a prime candidate to replace the South Korean ace on the long term.
However, according to a report from The Times, Postecoglou and Tottenham are not thinking about life without Son. In fact, the 59-year-old tactician is planning with his skipper for next season as the 32-year-old hopes to fulfil his entire contract and perhaps potentially leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2026.
The North Londoners are keen for Son to retire at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but at this stage, they have been unable to convince him to commit to a longer-term deal. The ex-Bayer Leverkusen man’s form has fallen off a cliff this season and he could find it difficult to retain his first XI spot when Dominic Solanke returns from injury.
However, in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road last weekend, the South Asian rolled back the years with his display as he recorded two assists for Brennan Johnson. It was the kind of performance Spurs fans have been longing for a long time.

Son has had to play relentlessly this season due to an injury crisis. However, with the injury issues easing up and players returning back, we could see Son get more rest and time to recover to allow him to produce impactful performances. Hopefully, Big Ange and Co. have it in them to give the South Korean superstar a trophy to cherish this season.
