Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the brink of leaving the club during the current transfer window.

Atletico Madrid have emerged as the likely destination for the Danish international.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish club is keen to strengthen its midfield, and Hojbjerg has been identified as their top target.

Hojbjerg had an impressive run with Denmark in Euro 2024, starting all four games and maintaining a remarkable 90.5% passing accuracy. He was even named Man of the Match against England in the group stage.

Although Denmark were eliminated by host Germany in the Round of 16, Hojbjerg’s performances have garnered further interest from several top clubs.

Actively seeking a move, Hojbjerg’s agents are in negotiations with multiple teams. Manager Ange Postecoglou has reportedly approved the defensive midfielder’s departure, suggesting that he does not fit into his long-term plans for Tottenham.

Last season, Hojbjerg made just eight Premier League starts out of 36 appearances, leading the 28-year-old to look for more consistent playing opportunities elsewhere. (Transfermarkt)

With his contract set to expire in June next year, the Lilywhites are open to selling him for around €18 million, his current market value.

Joining Atletico Madrid would offer Hojbjerg a fresh start and regular game time to play a key role in a top-level team.

For Tottenham, this transfer is an opportunity to reshape their midfield and raise some funds for new signings that better align with Postecoglou’s vision for the future.
